At the age of 16,
Arie became a volunteer for Magen David Adom.
Since then he has undergone extensive training
and today he is a volunteer ambulance driver,
has been trained as a senior medic
and serves as one of Magen David Adom's first responders.
Most of his activiyt as a first responder
takes place in the Yafo area,
and in the many suicide bombings that occur throughut
the country. |

In the year 2001, the first responders
Regiment received the President's Award for Voluntarism.
Arie accepted the award from the President, at the President's
Residence in jerusalem,
on behalf of the National First Responders Regiment.
Here is a segment from the speech that was made at the ceremony:
"In the framework of Magen David Adom in Israel, over one thousand
volunteer first responders work to save lives.
The volunteers, who are spread out all over Israel, were all trained
as medics specializeing
in emergency medicime.
They are always equipped with resuscitation and first aid equiment
and are activated by monitoring the Magen David Adom control network.
They use their own cars to answer emergency calls that always
find them at the ready,
at any hour of the day and night, and wherever they happen to
be.
These first responders, the vangard of Magen David Adom,
answer over three thousand emergency calls each month.
Their widespread deployment ensures that wherever people need
help - you will find them there.
This is how it is during normal times, and all the more so during
crises and emergencies.
Performance speed is the guiding light for the volunteer first
responders.
Every minute counts. Sometimes that one single minute represents
the fine line between life and death.
More than once, the first responders arrive on the scene before
the ambulances and immediately
begin administering first aid and performing resuscitation.
The First Responders Unit, whose essentialness has been proven,
especially during the riots of the Intifada and the latest suicide
bombings of these past years,
has brought about a real revolution in the domain of saving lives.
Many, many people owe their lives to the First Responders Unit.
Magen David Adom's volunteer first responders are always ready
and willing to save human lives.
Today, they are being awarded the President's Award for Voluntarism
2001.
"This has nothing to do with real estate, but it does have to
do with people,
ordinary people in their darkest hours.
Oftentimes it's hard, and sometimes it has its amusing moments.

at the expense of their own free time and in their own cars.
